“If a person loves an attribute of Allah, this will help him to reach Him. Allah is as-Sabur (the Patient), and there is none that is more patient and forebearing than Him… Allah loves His attributes and characteristics, and He loves to see the effects of His attributes on His worshippers.

He is Beautiful, so He loves beauty;

He is Forgiving, so He loves forgiveness;

He is Generous, so He loves generosity;

He is Knowing, so He loves the people of knowledge;

He is Strong, so He loves the strong believer more than the weak one;

He is Patient, so He loves the patient;

He is Grateful, so He loves those who give thanks.

He loves those who have His characteristics, so He is with them, and this is a unique type of companionship.”

نعيب زماننا و العيب فينا
و ما لزماننا عيب سوانا
و نهجو ذا الزمان بغير ذنب
و لو نطق الزمان لنا هجانا
We blame our time though we are to blame.
No fault has time but only us.
We scold the time for all the shame.
Had it a tongue, it would scold us.
— Imam al-Shafi’ee poetry

We are constantly between a blessing of Allah that we should be thanking Him more for, and a state of sinning that we should be seeking forgiveness from Him for. So give shukr and make istighfār!

“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.”

Tawakkul is having full faith that Allah will take care of you—even when things look impossible.  Tawakkul is standing in front of the Red Sea—as Prophet Musa did—with an army behind you, and not even flinching, knowing that Allah will get you through.   It is having full faith that when Allah takes away the umbilical cord, He will replace it with milk.

“Can you rest knowing that you will spend eternity in the lowest level of Jannah, when you had the chance to live amongst the Prophet salla Allahu alayhi wasallam and his companions? Why would anyone want to ‘settle’? When you have the urge to do the bare minimum, always ask yourself, ‘Would the highest people of Jannah do this action?’”

The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “There isn’t a single day or night that passes except Allah bestows a blessing and charity on His slave. The greatest blessing Allah bestows on His slave is being occupied with the Most High’s remembrance.” [at-Tabarani, graded Hasan by Shaykh al-Albani]

“Know that the grief and worries of this world do not end and that its happiness is not lasting. So do not remiss (in your religious duties); otherwise, you will perish.”

If Allah answered your duas at the exact time that you wanted, who would be the master and who would be the worshipper? We want Allah to answer our calls promptly, but how prompt are we in answering the call to Allah? May Allah rectify our hearts and affairs. Ameen! (source)
